Voice

by aaron on January 25th, 2009

His voice is changing. He “talks” all the time, in his own special way. Sometimes he sounds his voice while moving his fingers around in his mouth to create different sounds that totally sound like he is having a conversation. Lately he has started figuring out how to make some of those sounds without his fingers and every day it’s sounding a little more like he is talking. He has said “mama” and “dada”, and does both quite often (I think he probably says some form of dadadadada more often, maybe the “da” sound is easier to say?) , but as of yet we don’t think he’s necessarily associating them with US.
And within the last few days, his voice has gotten noticeably deeper. My mom even noticed on the phone when Sebo was talking in the background. It’s just so amazing to be able to hear a real voice starting to develop. Although we’re pretty sure that seven months is perhaps a little early for puberty. But he has seemed fairly advanced so far …

Crawl

by aaron on January 21st, 2009

Sebastian crawled for the first time today! It was just one “shuffle” forward on one knee, trying to get a cool rattle our friend Heather gave him, but it was most definitely a crawl. Wow.

Shepard Fairey

by aaron on January 18th, 2009

I’ve liked Shepard’s work for a long time. He got famous for the Andre the Giant “OBEY” campaign, he did the artwork for the Smashing Pumpkins “Zeitgeist” album, and most recently he did the Obama HOPE posters. Here’s an interview when he was on The Colbert Report a few days ago:

He’s an artist, I’m an artist. He’s now been interviewed by Stephen Colbert, I have not. Something needs to change.

Knocking on wood

by aaron on January 18th, 2009

Sebastian has been sleeping through the night for the past several nights. He slept through the night once right before we all got sick before Christmas. Then when he wasn’t feeling well and couldn’t breathe through his nose, he was not sleeping very well at all. But now that he’s feeling better, he has started sleeping better. Basically, he is falling asleep somewhere between 7:45 and 8:30 every night. Then we give him a “dream feed” bottle of formula at 11pm, which he doesn’t really wake up for (maybe a little, but then he falls right back asleep) and then he sleeps until somewhere between 6-7am. And even better, when he does wake up, he doesn’t wake up screaming his head off as in months past, but instead, he plays by himself in his crib for awhile before we come to get him.

So this is an enormously welcome development. We’ve not had much sleep since several months before he was born … at least not consistently. And our bodies might take a little while to adjust to this new schedule. Now that I am sleeping 6-7 hours in a row finally, it’s not a fully relaxed sleep, I’m sure because my brain figures someone will wake it up at any moment, and none too pleasantly. So I’m waking up feeling like I have a hangover. But I am sure I will adjust, and hope that this is a trend that will stick.

And he is soooooooo ready to start crawling. Yesterday he was with Michelle and her mom and brothers, and her mom at one point busted out the video camera mode of her point-and-shoot because they thought that he was about to crawl and I wasn’t going to be there to see it. But he didn’t. He can crawl backwards a little bit, which might be nice for party tricks, but crawling forward hasn’t happened yet. Part of me can’t wait to see him start being mobile. Another part, possibly a bit larger, is scared as hell by the thought. Because he is going to be EVERYWHERE.

Speaking of rock stars

by aaron on January 16th, 2009

Michelle and I and Sebo had lunch yesterday with our friend (and former boss at Creative Access) Lee. He was telling us about how he and Wes spent New Year’s Eve in Times Square with Kelly Pickler (Wes is her publicist) … here’s a screen shot off youtube of them on Dick Clark’s New Years Rockin’ Eve, seconds after the ball dropped. That’s (l to r) one of Kelly’s friends, Kelly Pickler, Lee Wright, and Wes Vause. If you don’t know any of them, you probably don’t care, but we thought this was pretty awesome :)

The Chocolate-Covered Umbrella

by aaron on January 15th, 2009

Just got my advance copy of The Chocolate-Covered Umbrella in the mail yesterday. This is not the first book I’ve designed, but it is the first book that’s used one of my paintings on the cover.

Not sure when the book will be released, but I’m sure it will be soon as it’s on amazon now.

7 months

by aaron on January 13th, 2009

Three days ago Sebastian turned 7 months old. That blows my mind, because while 6 months is halfway to a year, when you get to 7 months the gondola has already turned the corner and is bearing a straight path toward a year old. I have always heard how quickly the time flies, but I’m only getting it now, and let me assure you that is does fly. And fast. Thank goodness none of us are sick anymore and we can get on with our lives.

New year

by aaron on January 1st, 2009

Michelle, Sebastian and I have all been sick for the past two weeks. Every time we think we’re getting better, we end up getting worse. I really hope this passes soon!
